Het 2019-Bordenau toernooi zit er weer op. 
De eerste wedstrijden had ik mooi aan me voorbij laten gaan vanwege …  Ja, van alles wat eigenlijk. Nog wat gestoorde balans na de avond ervoor, angst voor de snelheid van het spel, gebrek aan welk vertrouwen of ritme dan ook, het rare gevoel bij alleen al een lay-up lopen en absoluut ontbreken van enige noodzaak bij een team van 12 spelers.

Maar goed, uiteindelijk toch maar het veld in, de laatste zaterdagse wedstrijd. In een wedstrijd die lekker kalm verliep, tegen een mix-team. Anderen zagen alleen maar nadelen van spelen tegen vrouwen. Je kunt er lelijk tegen afgaan en je kunt er eigenlijk niet van winnen. Ik zag alleen maar de voordelen. Iets minder snelheid, iets minder lengte. En we stonden ruim voor, de spanning was er al een beetje uit.

De bank begon er geloof ik mee. Men gunde me een score. Beetje gênant wel, dacht ik.

Je kent het wel: die afscheidwedstrijden van bekende voetballers. Ze zijn al een tijdje gestopt en uit training. Dat is ze ook aan te zien. Ze hebben het niet meer moeten trainen lekker gevierd. Strand en terras zijn bezocht. De schnitzels hebben gesmaakt. Onder het shirt zien we een al wat opbollend buikje.
In de wedstrijd, kalm tempootje, wordt doorlopend geprobeerd de man vrij te spelen, verdedigers laten hem een beetje lopen. Alles is erop gericht hem een doelpuntje te laten maken. 

Je kent het wel: die zielige downies die in de groep altijd een beetje achterblijven. In de veronderstelling dat ze daar onder lijden worden ze steeds een beetje geholpen. Mogen ze een keer extra gooien, mogen ze een penalty extra schieten. 

Daar leek het haast wat op. Maar zo bedoelden mijn teamgenoten het natuurlijk niet. Zo zijn ze niet, het zijn schatten natuurlijk; #doeslief.

Het kwam er niet van. Ik speelde de bal gewoon door, bang voor een uitbarsting van beschamend enthousiasme, mocht ie er toevallig in gegaan zijn. Beter zo. 

Daarbij: tijdens het toernooi ging het toch vaak over ´volgend jaar´. Dat we volgend jaar de koelkast gingen gebruiken, dat we volgend jaar iets minder Captain Morgan mee konden nemen, dat we volgend jaar weer niet voor de Fairplayprijs in aanmerking zouden komen, dat we zeker niet op vrijdagavond gingen spelen, dat we volgend jaar dit en dat we volgend jaar dat.
Dus waarom zou dit dan mijn afscheidswedstrijd zijn geweest? 

De schoenen zijn weer mee naar huis.
Nog steeds klaar voor gebruik.
